Beacon Rock  -  Beacon Rock State Park, WA.  Beacon Rock is a landmark in the Columbia River Gorge, named by Capt. Clark in his journal on November 2, 1805.  At 800 ft. high, it is the world's second largest free-standing rock monolith.  Beacon Rock is only a few miles downstream from the "Cascades," a section of the river running through an especially shallow and rocky area.
